Collegiate Network member publications are invited to the national Editors Conference each year. At the event, the CN staff, speakers, and panelists provide advice on all aspects of maintaining a superb independent campus publication, including writing, editing, recruiting, and design. In addition to the CN staff, speakers include CN alumni and established journalists from across the nation. Past speakers include well-known journalists such as U.S. News and World Report columnist John Leo, Village Voice columnist Nat Hentoff, The Weekly Standard editor Fred Barnes, National Review political correspondent John Miller, The Wall Street Journal editorial writers John Fund, William McGurn, and Robert Bartley, Forbes editor Tim Ferguson, authors Harry Stein and Richard Steinberg, and nationally recognized public policy analysts such as Thomas Sowell, Robert Bork, and Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. In addition, CN alumni who are now professional journalists frequently address and advise the students. The conference provides a great opportunity for student journalists to share experiences and ideas with one another and prepare for the year ahead.

Member papers are strongly encouraged to send two students, one veteran editor and a promising young student writer. Each conference is designed to facilitate student interaction with professional journalists, leading public policy figures, CN alumni, and fellow student journalists from across the country. Past conference locations include Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, Washington, DC, and San Francisco.

"Without the CN our paper would be in pitiful shape. The guidance provided by these conferences is superb."
Carolina Review, UNC Chapel Hill

"The conference was great for both fun and learning. The CN in general is truly a godsend and so many of these papers would not exist without it."
Ignition Magazine, University of Oklahoma

2006 Collegiate Network Editors Conference a Great Success

On November 3-5, more than one hundred Collegiate Network (CN) student journalists gathered in Scottsdale, Arizona for the CN’s annual Editors Conference.  The students attended a variety of workshops and lectures, with speakers including Martin Singerman of the New York Post and News Corporation, John J. Miller of National Review, John Leo of The Manhattan Institute, and Harry Crocker of Regnery Publishing, among others.  “[The conference] was a very motivating and inspiring experience.  I can’t wait to get home and start implementing the new ideas I have had,” one student exclaimed.  “The CN has been a tremendous asset in the continued production of our paper,” another attendee said.
